CHU Hospital

Brief

The university hospital required hygienic door systems for clinical areas across its new facility. The new building which is twice the size of the current area includes 13 operating theatres, 68 intensive care beds, 98 hospital beds for cardiology, neurology, emergency surgery and a helipad.

Solution

Dortek supplied and installed specialist hygienic FRP hinged and sliding doors and double action fire doors. Dortek’s FRP hospital doors have a timber free, seamless gelcoat surface which prevents them from harbouring bacteria and makes them easy to clean for flawless hygiene and infection control. This project was completed by our partner Erpor’t.

Dana Farber

Brief

Dana Farber required auto hermetic sliding doors for Bio Decontamination area at their Boston research site. The doors needed to have Integration with their TOMI Environmental Solutions SteraMist Environment System.

Solution

Dortek installed 4 hermetically sealing sliding doors to the facilities Bio Decontamination area. These doors are ideal for areas that are using vaporized cleaning agents as part of their protocol. The project had a very short schedule which required all stakeholders to work together in order to meet the deadline.

The Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing

Brief

Dortek has completed two projects at The Jefferson Institute. Dortek supplied our specialist FRP door systems to the facility when it first opened in 2019 and we supplied doors again in 2023, as part of an expansion. The Institute received a $2 million grant to add nearly 40,000 square feet of additional academic and training space.

Solution

The institute is designed to simulate a GMP manufacturing plant where biologics are made so it was crucial the doors met GMP standards. Dortek supplied FRP doors in Stainless Steel frames, cleanroom windows and pass-through hatches. Dortek fibreglass doors are ultra-clean, non-porous and do not harbour bacteria, making them ideal for biopharmaceutical facilities.

Testimonial – Laboratory designer. ‘Thank you and the Dortek team for continued world class service. As mentioned before the product is always great, but the service your team provides is even greater! The doors turned out very well for this project, and the owner is impressed with them as well.’

Northwestern University – Research Lab

Brief

From the outset, Dortek worked alongside the project team to identify key areas that would require specialist molded fiberglass doors. This collaboration allowed the team to use specific design details that Dortek have developed over its time working in world class medical research facilities. Some of these details included: Extended frame backstop – this protects the back edge of a door from heavy rolling loads when opened at 90 degree angle. Dortek’s integral blind system – Inta Vista. This blind incorporates both the blackout function and red tint film needed in behavioral research areas.

These details, along with university specific hardware and design considerations were incorporated into a strong project specification. Dortek worked with Power Construction to coordinate submittals, delivery scheduling, installation and commissioning through a seamless process.

Solution

Dortek supplied 147 Molded FRP door sets along with 5 glass sliding doors for this project. FRP fire doors were required in some circumstances, Dortek’s UL 10C rated fire doors allowed the designers to keep aesthetic consistency throughout each area using rated and non rated doors. Stainless Steel frames were utilized on this project as this facility type is known to have heavy racks and carts moving along corridors at regular intervals. The use of stainless frames offers more design flexibility durability over extended periods of time.

Pfizer, Sanford

Brief
