Dortek have been specified to supply and install our hygienic doors at two new state of the art Spire hospitals. One in Didsbury, Manchester and the other in Tollerton, Nottingham.
The new £63m Spire hospital in West Didsbury will replace the existing Spire Manchester Hospital in Whalley Range. The facility will provide increased theatre and ward capacity for patients and the capability for new services for the people of Manchester and surrounding areas. The new site on the corner of Princess Road and Barlow Moor Road will offer great facilities to patients and shows a commitment to research and education by Spire Healthcare.
The new £60 million hospital in Nottingham will be a contemporary and leading edge 56-bed facility, housing the latest in medical technology and equipped for the most complex surgeries. Once opened, the hospital will house three ultra-clean air theatres, one hybrid theatre designed for minimally-invasive surgery, a minor surgery theatre, 54 patient beds, five-bed HDU/ITU, MRI and CT scanning facilities and a full range of surgical and medical treatments.
The buildings have been designed, analysed and detailed utilising the latest 3D BIM modelling software to promote efficient and collaborative working relationships. Construction has already begun on site with focus turning to the interior areas. Both hospitals are due to be fully operational by early 2017.
Spire Healthcare is one of the UK’s largest private hospital providers with 39 hospitals and 13 clinics nationwide. Dortek have also recently supplied specialist access solutions to Spire Hospitals in Southampton, Harpenden and Leeds. With two contracts secured for the refurbishment of Spire Macclesfield and Hartswood hospital.
Dortek GRP doors have an inorganic, timber free construction which makes them ideal for sensitive hygiene areas. Dortek’s doors play an essential role in preventing cross-contamination as well as providing fire and x-ray protection and ensuring safe and efficient access across hospitals.
The New £18m Orthopaedic Centre at Wrightington Hospital is a centre of excellence for orthopaedic surgery, and recognised globally for the pioneering work that was carried out there in hip replacement surgery by Sir John Charnley in the 1960’s & 70’s.
The new centre at Wrightington is the first significant investment that has been made on the site in 35 years. The development, carried out under Procure 21+, includes 4 ultra clean theatres, two 28 bed wards, with a high proportion of single bedrooms, an admissions department and post-operative recovery.
The redevelopment has provided a greatly improved environment for both patients and staff, with more single room accommodation, increased safety, improved clinical practice and reduced length of stay.
Dortek’s specialist hygienic doors were specified as part of the trusts strategy to drive infection control and operating efficiency across its new theatres. Dortek supplied and installed bi-parting hermetic sliding doors with automations for ease of access and reduced air turbulence. These doors have a unique hermetically sealing gasket system which gives them a 99% air tight seal. They’ve been proven to reduce the volume of clean air fed into operating theatres by over 20%, lowering long term costs significantly.
Dortek installed touchless door sensors to ensure safe, convenient access. Safe operation is ensured by the use of an intelligent automation, which reacts to even the smallest obstruction and photo sensors that stop the door closing onto passing traffic. This creates a high level of performance and a safe and reliable door system.
The project was also a Department of Health early adopter project for BIM Level 2. BIM was utilised to achieve an efficient and co-ordinated design and to enable the launch of estate and asset management systems capable of handling the complexity of the hospitals operational requirements.
Dortek has a range of 55 different products available in Revit which can be easily downloaded from our website, NBS or Bimstore.
