Brief

The hospital required new operating theatre doors as part of a major refurbishment. The upgrade was an essential part of the trust’s strategy to drive infection control and operating efficiency across its theatres. Dortek were asked to replace the existing timber doors with a more functional and hygienic alternative to meet these goals.

Solution

Dortek supplied and installed specialist hermetic sliding doors with automation for easy access. These doors have a unique hermetically sealing gasket system which gives them a 99% air tight seal. After installing the doors the hospital were able to reduce the volume of clean air fed into the theatres by over 20%. The air, which has to be regulated and controlled for particulates, humidity and temperature, is a considerable expense per cubic metre, so the long term cost saved from this were significant. As well as delivering operational efficiency, Dortek doors have a smooth and void free surface. This prevents them from harbouring bacteria and makes them easy to clean for flawless hygiene and infection control.
