Ng Teng Fong Hospital
08/05/2025

The NG Teng Fong General Hospital opened in June 2015. The hospital is located in the heart of the Jurong lakeside district, a commercial hub and leisure destination.

It was the first regional hospital in Singapore to be built together with a community hospital; NTFGH’s design promotes seamless integration of care. Pairing NTFGH with Jurong Community Hospital is key to the government’s strategy of maintaining simple, affordable healthcare as the population ages.

The hospital is designed to be as patient and eco-friendly as possible. It has been rated platinum under Singapore’s Green Mark programme and uses 70% less energy in comparison to typical inpatient hospitals. The building was constructed to allow as much natural light and ventilation as possible to aid patient recovery. The design brings plants, gardens and daylight into each patients view and controlled access to vegetation on terraces provides a therapeutic environment for healing.

Some of the other unique design features of the hospital includes;

  • The intensive care and high dependency units are merged instead of separated, this means patients are cared for by the same team which lowers the chance of medical errors.
  • The hospitals ward towers are built in an East-West orientation, which takes advantage of prevailing winds to provide ventilation. Sun angles were also studied to make sure ward rooms receive the optimum amount of daylight without too much glare.
  • Patient wards have a fun shaped design, allowing each bed to be placed next to a window with greenery outside.
  • The hospital’s internal hot water supply and energy for landscape lighting are provided by solar energy. Harvested rainwater is the main source of irrigation for its rooftop gardens.

Dortek supplied and installed over 100 specialist hygienic doors, frames, hardware and automations to the hospital. Dortek’s Bi parting 3mm lead lined doors were supplied with large vision panels. Vision panels were used to enhance both room visibility and natural daylight for patients in order to promote a healing environment. Wide lead lined hinged doors (up to 1425mm) were specified to give clear traffic access throughout clinical areas.
