Hospital Trust leading the way with £4 million investment in state-of-the-art hybrid operating theatre

The new hybrid operating theatre, one of only three of its kind in the UK and a first in the Midlands, recently opened to welcome its first patients. It will see the hospital, part of the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust; confirm its position as the regional centre for vascular surgery.

The theatre will centre around the GE Discovery 740 robotic machine which utilises 3D technology and can be used for a range of specialist procedures including keyhole Endovascular aneurysm repair.

Mr Martin Claridge, vascular surgeon and clinical lead for the hybrid theatre project, said: “We have the busiest custom-made Endovascular service in Europe achieving outstanding results. This facility will allow us to treat more patients and allow us to push forward as we continue to lead the way in this field”.

Dortek’s specialist hybrid theatre doors were specified for the theatre and will play an essential role in maintaining infection control. The hermetically sealing gasket system gives the door a 99% air tight seal in order to minimise the build up of airborne particles.

Our hybrid doors also offer a combination of fire, laser and x-ray protection as well as being automated to provide easy access and reduce cross contamination. All hygienic doosets have an ultra flush, seamless surface to prevent bacteria from harbouring and make them easily wiped clean.

For these reasons Dortek doors are specified by hospitals, architects, healthcare planners and infection control departments across the world.
