The MSD Carlow €300m state-of-the-art vaccines, biologics and sterile manufacturing facility has won the Operational Excellence Category Award at the ISPE Facility of the Year Awards.

Selected from 27 international entries, the other category winning projects are located in Switzerland, the UK and USA.

The ISPE (International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers) Facility of the Year Awards programme recognizes the pharmaceutical industry’s innovation and technical advances in facility manufacturing, which ultimately is about helping patients who need and depend upon a reliable supply of quality medications.

Dortek supplied and installed 135 hygienic door systems throughout the manufacturing facility. The unique properties of Dortek doors mean they are seamless, easy to clean and fully compliable with good GMP requirements. This makes them  ideal for vaccine facilities where hygiene is paramount. Dortek doors are used worldwide by major vaccine manufacturers including GSK Biologicals, Novartis and Merck & Co.

The MSD Carlow project also won the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) Construction Industry Safety Excellence Award (Best International Project) and received a NISO Irish safety award.
